Left Field (“we,” “us,” “our,” or “Left Field”) offers a mobile app (the “App”) that reimagines modern connection by bringing back dating 'the old-fashioned way'. Built for those who crave meaningful moments over endless scrolling, Left Field sends curated profile drops based on overlaps like mutuals, shared hometown or college, same favorite spots and interests.

We know that privacy is important in dating and we care about the privacy of our users. This Privacy Policy tells you how we collect, use, and disclose your personal information. This Privacy Policy describes how we handle personal information that we collect when you use the App. We also address the information we collect on our website, social media pages, and at in-person events.

LEFT FIELD APP PRIVACY PRINCIPLES

‍We have several guiding principles that govern in how we address the privacy of our App users:

We collect a variety information about our users to help them find matches and to improve our platform, as we describe in this Privacy Policy.
We collect App users’ geolocation, with your consent, because location-based matching is acore feature of our App.
We do not share App users’ precise geolocation information with other users. When we surface potential matches, we do it at the neighbourhood level.
We do not sell the personal information you share with us when using the App.
We do not use the personal information of App users to advertise on the App or for other targeted advertising.
We don’t share your precise geolocation with others.

PERSONAL INFORMATION WE COLLECT

Here’s how we collect personal information when you use our App. We may collect similar information when you register for our in-person events.

Personal information we receive from you

BASIC ACCOUNT INFORMATION: When you create an account, we collect your first and last name, email address, telephone number, and postal address.
PROFILE INFORMATION: We may collect your photos, bio, interests, hobbies, job, education, neighborhood of residence, hometown, political preferences, whether you have and/or want children, your responses to our prompts, and your relationship preferences.
DEMOGRAPHIC INFORMATION: We may collect demographic details, including your gender, date of birth, height, pronouns, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, and lifestyle choices.
MESSAGES AND CHATS: We retain messages you send and receive in the App. We use automated trust and safety technology to monitor these communications to protect the platform and its users.
BEHAVIOURAL AND PREFERENCE DATA: Information about your match preferences and other feedback/preferences that you might express during your use of the App, including any responses you enter into our open forms about what you’re seeking in dating. We may also infer information about your preferences and interests based on your use of the App.
RELATIONSHIP INFORMATION: Details of your communications with us and details of your complaints and queries in general.

Personal information collected automatically through your use of the App

ONLINE ACTIVITY DATA: Login frequency, engagement patterns, chat activity, match preferences, in-app behavior, and whether you have opened our marketing emails or clicked links within them.
DEVICE INFORMATION: Your mobile device’s operating system type and version, manufacturer and model, screen resolution, RAM and disk size, CPU usage, device type (e.g., phone, tablet), IP address, language settings, mobile device carrier, radio/network information (e.g., WiFi, LTE, 3G), advertising ID, and general location information.
GEOLOCATION: We collect your geolocation with your consent (provided through your device settings). Depending on your device settings, you may have the option to provide us with your location only while you are using the App, or to provide your location in the background while you are not using the App. You may choose to disable location services in your device settings, though this will limit the App’s core features.

We use the following tools for automatic data collection

COOKIES: Cookies are pieces of information stored directly on the device that you are using and allow us to collect information such as browser type, time spent on the App, pages visited, language preferences, and other traffic data. We and our service providers may use the information for security purposes, to facilitate navigation, display information more effectively, conduct analytics, and personalize your experience. LOCAL STORAGE TECHNOLOGIES: These technologies provide cookie-equivalent functionality but can store larger amounts of data, including on your device outside of your browser in connection with specific applications.
PIXEL TAGS: Also known as web beacons and clear GIFs, pixel tags may be used to, among other things, track the actions of email recipients, and compile statistics about response rates.

Other sources from which we collect personal information

SOCIAL MEDIA: Information we collect from social media sites may include details such as profile pictures, social media account ID, and other public social media profile information.
OTHER THIRD PARTIES: We may collect information from sources such as marketing partners or social media.

Information About Non-Users

‍You may sync your contact book to enable you to invite others to join the App and to identify mutuals to help us suggest profiles you overlap with. As a result, we may maintain information such as names and phone numbers of contacts who are not users of the App. We will handle non-user information solely in accordance with this Privacy Policy. Non-users can exercise their privacy rights and choices as described in the “Privacy Rights Requests” section below. You can revoke our access to your contact book by adjusting your device settings. If you change your device settings to terminate our access to your contacts, we will delete the copy of your contact book we maintain.

‍HOW WE USE PERSONAL INFORMATION

‍Here’s how we use personal information.

ADMINISTERING THE APP: To manage our contractual relationship with you, we may use your personal information to provide the App to you, including connecting you with compatible matches based on your profile, location, and preferences, arranging access to your account, verifying your information, responding to your inquiries, fulfilling your requests, and sending you administrative information such as agreements to provide the App and changes to our terms, conditions, and policies.
OPERATIONS AND GENERAL BUSINESS: To manage our contractual relationship with you and to fulfil our legitimate business interests, we may use your personal information when we conduct our operations (such as troubleshooting, diagnostic testing, performance analyses of our systems and the App, testing of new App features to evaluate their impact, system and log maintenance, technical support, system debugging, and hosting data) and to facilitate mergers, acquisitions, and other reorganizations and restructurings of our business (including prospective transactions).
MARKETING: To fulfil our legitimate business interests, we may use your personal information to send you our newsletters, publications, updates, and invitations that we think may be of interest to you, where permitted by applicable law. We may send marketing messages through email and/or text message, depending on your communication preferences.
RELATIONSHIP BUILDING AND ENGAGEMENT: To manage our contractual relationship with you and to fulfill our legitimate business interests, we may use your personal information to respond to any posts on our social media pages, and to conduct other user relationship building activities.
HOSTING EVENTS: To manage our contractual relationship with you and to fulfil our legitimate business interests, we may use your personal information to fulfil your event registration requests and to facilitate and participate in events that we host.
PERSONALIZING OUR SERVICES: To fulfil our legitimate business interests, we may use your personal information to personalize our interactions with you and to provide you with information tailored to your interests, engagement, and preferences, such as providing you with match recommendations.
DEVELOPING, TRAINING, AND USING AI MODELS: To fulfil our legitimate business interests, we may use your personal information when we use third-party AI services, including OpenAI, to conduct analysis to inform our match suggestions, and to train our AI models, including those that we license from third parties.
IMPROVING AND DEVELOPING THE APP: To fulfil our legitimate business interests, we may use your personal information to conduct data analysis, to monitor and analyze App use, to use data analytics to improve the efficiency of our App, to develop new App features, to enhance, improve, repair, maintain, or modify the App and our other services, to identify usage trends, to understand which parts of our App are most interesting to users, to determine the effectiveness of our promotional campaigns, and for other similar purposes.
AGGREGATION AND/OR ANONYMIZATION: To fulfil our legitimate business interests, we may generate anonymized and aggregated information that does not identify you or other individuals and use and share such data for our own business purposes.
SECURITY AND FRAUD PREVENTION: To manage our contractual relationship with you, to comply with our legal obligations, and to fulfil our legitimate business interests, we may use your personal information to conduct audits, to verify that our internal processes function as intended and are compliant with legal, regulatory, or contractual requirements, to monitor for and prevent fraud, and for security purposes, including maintaining system security and on-site security during our events.
LEGAL AND COMPLIANCE: To manage our contractual relationship with you and to comply with our legal obligations, we may use your personal information to fulfill our legal and compliance-related obligations, including complying with applicable laws, complying with legal processes, responding to requests from public and government authorities, meeting national security or law enforcement requirements, complying with requirements set by industry-specific supervisory bodies, enforcing our terms and conditions and standards, protecting our operations, protecting the rights, privacy, or property of our business, responding to auditors, pursuing available legal remedies, making insurance claims, defending claims, and limiting the damages that we may sustain.
EMERGENCY AND INCIDENT RESPONSE: To manage our contractual relationship with you and to protect individuals’ vital interests, we may use your personal information to protect the safety of event attendees, respond to, handle, and document accidents and medical and other emergencies at our events; request assistance from emergency services; and send notifications and alerts in the event of incidents or emergencies (such as via SMS, email, call, audio-visual device prompts, etc.).

HOW WE DISCLOSE PERSONAL INFORMATION

‍Here are the types of entities to which we may disclose personal information.

SERVICE PROVIDERS: We use service providers that provide hosting, information technology, customer support, payment processing, email and communications delivery, and analytics services for the purposes listed above. This includes AI services, including OpenAI. We do not share or sell your personal information to third-party AI services for their own training or business purposes.
OTHER APP USERS: We share your first name, your profile and certain demographic information, and the neighbourhood you are in with other users that are in your area to facilitate potential matches. We never share your precise location with other users.
PROFESSIONAL ADVISORS: We use accountants, actuaries, auditors, experts, consultants, lawyers, banks, and financial institutions to support our business.
AUTHORITIES AND OTHERS: If we are required by law or legal process or if we deem the disclosure appropriate for other legal, compliance or fraud-prevention purposes, we may disclose information to law enforcement, public, regulatory and government authorities, or courts, or other entities that obtain valid subpoenas.
OTHER ONLINE SERVICES: When you interact with us, you may choose to share information and content on our social media pages and other online services.
BUSINESS TRANSFEREES: We may disclose or transfer your personal information to third parties such as acquiring entities and their advisors in the event of any reorganization, merger, sale, joint venture, assignment, transfer, or other disposition of all or any portion of our business, assets, or stock (including in connection with any bankruptcy or similar proceedings).

SMS MESSAGING AND INVITATIONS

Left Field may use SMS or text messaging in connection with the App in the following ways:

INVITATIONS FROM EXISTING USERS: An existing Left Field user may provide a phone number to invite a contact to join the App. If you receive a text message from Left Field as part of such an invitation, the message is sent as a one-time or limited communication for the purpose of delivering that invitation. Receiving an invitation does not enroll you in ongoing text messages.
OPT-IN MESSAGES: If you choose to provide your mobile phone number and opt in, Left Field may send you SMS messages related to your use of the App, including notifications or other communications you have requested.
OPT-OUT: You may opt out of receiving SMS messages from Left Field at any time by replying “STOP” to any message. After opting out, you will not receive further SMS messages unless you choose to opt in again.
USE AND SHARING OF MOBILE NUMBERS: We do not sell, rent, or share mobile phone numbers or SMS opt-in data with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Mobile numbers may be shared with service providers solely to support SMS delivery on our behalf and may not be used for any other purpose.

HOW USERS MAY SHARE INFORMATION ON THE APP

‍You may choose to share information with other App users and the public through messages, profile pages, and other services to which you are able to post information and content (including our social media pages). Information you post or disclose in this context may be available to other users and/or the general public.

‍SECURITY

‍We seek to use reasonable organizational, technical, and administrative measures to protect personal information within our organization. Unfortunately, no data transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. If you have reason to believe that your interaction with us is no longer secure, please notify us immediately.

‍MARKETING CHOICES

‍You have choices regarding marketing-related communications. Where required by applicable law, we will ask for your prior opt-in consent. If you no longer want to receive marketing-related emails from us on a going-forward basis, you may opt-out by following the unsubscribe instructions in any such message. If you no longer want to receive SMS/text messages from us on a going-forward basis, you may opt out by texting “STOP.”

We will try to comply with your request(s) as soon as reasonably practicable. Please note that if you opt out of receiving marketing communications from us, we may still send you important administrative messages, from which you cannot opt out.

‍We offer you choices that affect how we handle the personal information that we control. Depending on your location and the nature of your interactions with our services, you may request the following in relation to your personal information:

To the extent available under applicable law, if we refuse to take action on your request, you may appeal this refusal within a reasonable period after you have received notice of the refusal. You may file an appeal by contacting us as described in the “Contacting Us” section below.

If you would like another person (an “agent”) to make a request on your behalf as permitted by applicable law, the agent may use the submission methods noted above. As part of our verification process, we may request that the agent provide proof of their authorization by you to submit the request.

Please note that we may need to retain certain information for record-keeping purposes. Further, certain personal information may be exempt from requests pursuant to applicable data protection laws or other laws and regulations.

‍RETENTION PERIOD

‍We retain personal information for as long as needed or permitted in light of the purposes for which it was obtained as outlined in this Privacy Policy unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by applicable law. The criteria used to determine our retention periods include:

The length of time we have an ongoing relationship with you (for example, for as long as you keep using the App);

THIRD-PARTY SERVICES

‍This Privacy Policy does not address, and we are not responsible for, the privacy, information, or other practices of any third parties. This includes any third party operating any website or service to which our App, emails, or website link. The inclusion of a link does not imply endorsement of the linked site or service by us.

In addition, we are not responsible for the information collection, use, disclosure or security policies or practices of other organizations, such as Facebook, Apple, Google, Microsoft, or any other app developer, app provider, social media platform provider, operating system provider, wireless service provider, or device manufacturer, including with respect to any personal information you disclose to other organizations through or in connection with the App or on social media.

‍THIRD-PARTY PAYMENT SERVICE

‍The App may provide functionality allowing you to make payments to us using third-party payment services. When you use such a service to make a payment to us, your personal information will be collected by such third party and not by us and will be subject to the third party’s privacy policy, rather than this Privacy Policy. We have no control over, and are not responsible for, this third party’s collection, use, and disclosure of your personal information.

‍USE OF SERVICES BY MINORS

‍The services are not directed to individuals under the age of 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under 18.

‍CROSS-BORDER TRANSFER

‍Your personal information may be stored and processed in any country or region where we have facilities or engage service providers. By using the App, you understand that your personal information may be transferred to countries outside of your country or region of residence, including to the United States, which may have data protection rules that are different from those of your country or region. In certain circumstances, courts, law enforcement agencies, regulatory agencies or security authorities in those other countries or regions may be entitled to access your personal information.
